I've found it's the cover letter that helps the most. Do research on the company to which you're applying. Find out their mission statement, if possible. In the first paragraph of your cover letter tell them what, specifically, you like about their company and why you'd be a good fit.

Employers want to see what benefit you bring to their organization.

So address your resume to the specific job for which you are applying and address how you can fill their needs.

Always quantify & qualify your answers using numbers, percentages, etc

Raised productivity by 25% utilizing a just-in-time training system managing over 15 employees.

I don't know about any special magnets, but nothing will repel potential employers more than bad grammer, spelling, or punctuation. If you are not 100% confident in your writing, find someone who is and have them review it!
