Also, note that dog bites rarely require a trip to the doctor, but cat bites usually do because cat bites tend to get infected. Cats probably can't rely on their saliva to disinfect dirty water or food, so they have an instinct to be more particular.

We have some outdoor cats who will drink from the muddy puddle and ignore the freah water we put out... go figure.
