They also said that this is not language specific. Jsut a general idea to see if we the candidates have the ability to be trained quick.

I've been in IT for 16 years. I've had a couple of tests during interviews. It could really be anything because there is no standard 'programmer analyst' test.

If you're applying for more of a development position (i.e. VB.Net, Java, etc.), then I would expect the test to be targeted to the specific language they use.

Most likely a programming test in the languages that you would use in that job. For example, if the job generally uses C++ and Perl..then you would be tested in those languages. You might be asked to write a short program and/or debug one..I'm thinking.

In response to your additional details, I think they may give you some instructions and they will ask you to perform them. It may involve memorization.
