My kids and I love to travel, but often we have to find different ways to have a great time and also save money: (example: have had dinner and one restaurant and dessert in another, to prevent having to buy 2 meals in a fancy places when we want to visit both places).
Can anyone give me some more tips on how you have saved money travelling?

Always pack some snacks, sandwiches, and/or a cooler with drinks. Those quick stops at the 7-eleven or fast food restaraunt really add up. Plus, you control the nutrition. Also, look into annual memberships to zoos or national parks. Often when you have a membership at one, you get free entrance and/or discounts at parks and zoos all over the nation.

If you need airline tickets, rental cars, etc. www.sidestep.com is a great site that searches multiple travel sites at once.

When driving, we often will pick up the free travel guide mags at convenience/gas stores. The travel guide magazines frequently have coupons to really great hotels in them! Recently, we stayed at a very, very nice hotel in Dallas for $59/night because of the coupon in the magazine. We also look up hotel prices on the internet, and then use that information to bargain with the reservationist at the place we really want to stay. "Do you match competitor's rates?," is the beginning line we use.
We frequently eat off the appetizer menu as our main course. Lots of times, the appetizer is huge! We'll each get an appetizer and then share with the others at the table. It's a great way to get lots of tastes for not as much money (or sometimes calories). Don't forget to bring your bottled water with you for the in-room refrigerator, and if you're staying for a few days, bring your PB&J and bread and cereal bars for those on-the-go meals and snacks by the pool; also popcorn for late-night in-room movies. Sign up for Ding! on Southwest for great airline tickets bargains.

Remember the great outdoors. My family and I choose a place where we can do outdoor things like hiking, and hanging out at the beach and things like that. That way you aren't spending a fortune to keep the kids happy every single minute of the trip.
