I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse. I know how she feels. I have a lot of patients with this problem. Black Cohosh is the best as it is the nearest thing to our natural hormones. The next one up is Dong Quai. Evening primrose is also very good. I take a combination pill that has all the vitamins and minerals us girls need when we reach this stage. I also take Black Cohosh. I and my female patients feel like new women. I was once on HRT, I ended up with muscular spasms in my arms and chest and bells palsy. It is also known to cause breast and uterine cancer. Stick to what the creator made, it's safer.
It does take a while to get into the system but it's worth the wait.

She should re think her diet

A herbal ppl (available from all good health stores) called saint john's wort is really good, exactly like HRT but in herbal form so she can take both at the same time without causing any harm, this helps erradicate mood swings hot flushes etc.

I personally use Evening of Primrose Oil 1000mgs. This alleviates the flashes and the night time sweats and helps regulate mood swings. Doesnt work for everyone but certainly worht a try. Get her to ask her doctor first though if it can be taken with her present medication. It is widely available in super markets and health food shops.

Prayer. You can also try to have the doctor prescribe Xanax or something similar. My mom is/was going through menopause. It's better now that she has some sort of "happy" pill. Be patient and sit back and listen even when you know you're right. It's not worth the argument. Good luck!

I've been researching this recently, and have read that soya products can help, as well as avoiding caffeine, alcohol and stress, and taking some form of exercise. I found the following links useful:
