I used to live in the area and my Mom still does.
When I visit, here are a few places that we always try to hit.
BBQ Inn -My personal favorite for BBQ. 1341 Patton Ave, Asheville, NC
Red Rocker Inn -Black Mountain (see below) for Desert
J&S Cafeteria - (828) 299-0096 Tel
Tunnell Road from the Asheville Mall to the Beaucatcher Tunnel has many major chain restaurants.
