I'm looking for recommendations of what to buy, or stay away from, in flip type cell phones.
I'm on Verizon's service and I'm wanting a new, flip open, cell phone that has good range, reception and sound quality. I prefer flip phones because when I have the flat kind, I usually bump them and accidentally call somebody. I don't care about playing movies or music through it, and I don't need Bluetooth or to take pictures with it, but I'll take those features if the phone reception is good. I just need a really good cell phone. Thanks for your help.

If you don't get good reception with your's, tell me what it is so I can stay away from that kind. Thanks.

I actually had a big problem with this I too am on Verizon in a risky area. So I got a Razr. I didn't need any of the flash either, but I got it and the reception is great. I also tried another kind of motorola phone which all the reps told me were the best. None of them worked like the Razr. You are kind of obligated to go with a higher end phone to get the better reception. Also one trick you can do in my area with the Razr is switch the phone between the verizon network or the extended network. In my area it's the Alltel towers that they use. So what I do is change my system from A to B under settings and tools and then under system. The Verizon reps will not tell you this. It works great for me. It does have bluetooth but you don't have to use it.

I have a Motorola Pebl (U6) which is cool, especially if you want videos and pics. Only 5Gb (about 1 or 2 decent mp3 songs) so good if you don't need music. The camera is decent though.
The flip is great (AND UNIQUE) because you can open it ONE-HANDED!!! By pulling down the top slightly. (hard to explain but it's cool - promise!) Has Java and Bluetooth.
The reception is great and it has loud speaker.
About: $180 - $240 / £100 - £130
Good value for money.

My first flip phone was an LG and it was great it worked so good that I hated to get a new phone when I signed another 2 year contract. That was 2 great years so I went with another LG and so far I am still very pleased with LG phones

The flip cell phones that don't have attenas don't have good reception. So look for a flip phone with a attena.
