It'll become a problem just like the one between the Israelis and the Palestinians....religious.

I believe that peace will eventually be there not immedtately, but in the long run. Democracy is ceratinly better than having an blood-thirsty ,oppressive dictator. But now , what they are facing is the initial power struggles of a newly liberated country. Like when India became independent & pakistan was formed, it resulted in the greatest exodus ever in the history of mankind & it was bloody too. But now look at India- the future looks promising. Iraq too seems a similar case. AND we are not the correct people to answer that.

I think that the situation clearly sucks then and now. However, I have to think for the average Iraqi citizen that at least before you only got messed with if you angered Saddam. Now, all hell has broken loose and it is not even safe in to be in public in a lot of areas. When the US pulls out, there were still be hostilities like any growing nations, but at least those would be growing pains, rather then United States inflicted pain.

Yes I do think peace is possible but it will take alot of time and lives before Iraq reaches that level. It is just extremly unfortuante that the people most affected by the war and change of goverment had the least say over the decison.

Why not ask the Iraqi people instead of a bunch of bystanders? What good will our opinion do you, its not our country, its theirs.
Thats the real problem, isnt it? We ask the opinions of the wrong people and base our opinions by it. Maybe that is why our judgement is so flawed.
I was actually in Iraq, and I asked. I got all positive answers, and not a single negative "yankee go home" response. Yet the media claims the opposite. Its clear to me who the liar is. But then again, i've been there, and you haven't.

This may seem hackneyed but ... " Charity begins at home. " I think we have a lot more to think about here. How come we're always someplace else? And to no good purpose or end? You never hear of any other country doing that.
I say let the other guy run his own house. To the point that, if he feels like burnning it down? It's his business. Isn't that what Wyatt Earp once did, anyway?

They were better off with Saddam.
Yes, he was a disctator, but the country was uninted and stable under him. He may have tortured and murdered a few poor sods but not as many that are dying in the streets now the coalition have come.
And what's more, once we leave it'll all revert back to a dictatorship, having acheived nothing but a few deaths.

If the U. S. hangs in there until the Iraqis can "stand on their own two feet", then I think they have a good chance of one day being and a strong and free nation. However, if we cut and run like the damned liberals / Democrats would have us do, then they will most certainly end up being as bad or worse off than they were before.

Other than having a newly established Democracy, the peole are opressed every day by the barbaric attacks from the insurgents. They're not much better off than they were 4 years ago.

I can't imagine how it could have gotten any better than under Saddam. Who wouldn't want their family to be tortured, raped, or fed into a shredder for any offense, real or imagined? Who wouldn't want to see their people killed off by WMD by the 1000's? Lack of rights, lack of freedom, no economy, lack of clean water, electricity, schools and hospitals - it was a veritable heaven on Earth!
