I have always had that problem, till I picked up this polish-stuff called "Witchcraft" strengthener. You can wear it alone or under polish, it is almost clear, but afte using it maybe 3 times my nails are the best they have ever been 3 months later!
Also make sure you are getting enough calcium in your diet to grow strong nails as well as bones.

Okay, first of all. Do you bite your nails or stick your nails in your mouth alot? That can make them soft and easy to break.
Second, do you get a sufficient amount of iron daily in your diet? You might consider taking daily vitamens (Women's One A Day is good). That has alot to do with your nails and your hair, as well as many other things.
Secondly, go to a local Walmart or Target (or anywhere nail polish is sold) and buy Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails polish. It's clear and can be used as a basecoat or topcoat. It will help keep your nails tough in the meantime and helps with the vitamens while it's on.

Sally Hansen makes allot of really good nail strengtheners. The best I have tried is Diamond Hard. It's in a silver bottle.

I just get gel nails at my salon and just forget this issue. Go back in every 2-3 weeks for a fill in and a new color and it's all good.

Gelatin - either in your diet (jello, etc.) or applied directly to the nail. Just check the manicure aisle in your local drug store for Sally Hansen nail treatments or other brands and you will find a plethora of products designed to strengthen nails and promote growth.

You could go to any store that sells beauty supplies and buy some nail polish top coat. Putting that on should help.
