According to Aristotle, the chicken came first. He posited that actuality takes precedence over potentiality. Eggs become chickens, chickens do not become eggs (they lay them, but they do not become them). Therefore an egg is a chicken in potentiality, but a chicken is a chicken in actuality. Therefore the chicken came first.

There are many ways to look at this question. One is from the evolutionary perspective and another is from the religious perspective.
If you look at it in terms of evolution, then genetically speaking, the egg came first. This is due to how the genetics that code for the chicken species we see today were found first in the eggs that hatched the first chickens.
On the other hand, the Old Testament states clearly that every creature was created by an intelligent designer, god, so naturally, this designer would have created a living chicken to have the eggs to have more generations of chickens.

ths is a very controversial question, because you can argue both sides effectively. for example, the chicken had to come from somewhere(the egg) but the egg had to come from somewhere to( the chicken) however, my belief is that the chicken evolved from another animal, just as we evolved from monkeys(unless your really christian and dont believe in evolution). so back to my point, the chicken evolved from something else and then started laying eggs to produce more chickens, just like we give birth to more humans to produce more of us.

The chicken. It says so in the bible. I think that the passage is Genesis 1:20-22.

I believe, as with any man, it was the rooster!!

Then he went strutting off to all of his friends to brag about it!!

What a jerk!!! I never liked him anyway!!!

Biblical response~ The chicken as Adam was too afraid to eat the apple first!! I don't think it was fair for Eve to catch crap for that as she was only showing her ambition and strength!!!

The chicken. When God created the universe, he populated it with the adult and gave them an opportunity to mate and multiply.
