For a seated, outdoor wedding ceremony.

Depends on your seating requirements.

If you're just looking for seating, you will find most folding chairs, especially the "ganged" type furnished by rental places, will be about 18" wide by 18" deep. For row seating you need to allow another 18" (preferably 24) between rows, and a three to four foot aisle down the middle. That gives you 11 seats across a twenty foot width, and approximately 19-20 rows. So that's approximately 200-210 people NOT INCLUDING THE AREA FOR THE CEREMONY. So, if you're not using a smaller tent area (for example, one of those 12x12 or 16x16 "pop up" shelters) at the front edge of the big tent (something I've seen done frequently) you'll need to knock off between 5 and 10 feet from the front, you'll lose 20-30 seats.

For a food service or table seating, as at a reception, you will usually find circular tables that range from 6-12 feet diameter (seating 6-10 people depending on how cramped you're willing to live with...) , and will need to leave a minimum of three foot aisles between. So that means that you can fit two across your 20 foot width and 4-5 on the length. That's 8-10 tables with 6-12 people each.

Not counting the portable dance floor of course... ;-)

Check with your tent rental supplier - they usually rent seating as well and can give you guidance as to the dimensions they find comfortable for seating.

Good luck!
