I'm Canadian (& have no problems with the American people) and find that successive American governments have given me reason to find this to be so. Bill Clinton was about the only one who didn't ask us to bow down to him. George Bush Jr. actually wanted to tell us what we should have in our border security policy. I agree that our two nations have to work together and compromise is essential, but I don't agree that just because an American government thinks something is right that it really is. America has no right to dictate other countries' policies. Unfortunately, there haven't been too many American governments who agree with this statement. And that's before I even get to the statements that Bush has made about if America needs oil, America will get oil. At whose expense? The rest of the world is who. & then there's the softwood lumber dispute. It appears that the Free Trade Agreement we have with the U.S. is only valid when it favours America.
We have to share this wondrous world. It's too bad that American governments can't seem to realize this.

The Americans that I know individually are for the most part very nice, reasonable, courteous people.
It is the image of the collective America that comes across as self-centred, rude and yes, ruthless. Seeking to impose American culture, morals and beliefs on the rest of the world, while ignoring the fact that other countries are entitled to their individual and unique cultures, most of which have existed much longer than the USA.
It is commendable for the NATO countries to step in when atrocities are taking place, but the US feels that they are a world law unto themselves and take it too far.
The fact is, the US government isn't concerned about anyone's welfare at all, not even their own citizens as much as they attempt to brainwash you about the "war on terra". They are simply concerned with world economic and military dominance, at the expense of all others who also inhabit this planet.

I'm an American living in France. The French people I know don't look at American citizens in general that way, but that's how they see Bush and his government.

The largest proportion of the people in England do.
But we had that idea before Bush came. He didn't make it any better though.
