In almost every state, you must go to Law School to become a lawyer (I believe that you can still apprentice with a lawyer in Virginia and California -- but don't recommend it).
The easiest route is to go to law school in the US. I believe that in some states you can become a lawyer if you have a law degree from a country that takes its legal system from British Common Law (e.g., Canada, England). The only reason I mention this is that in the UK, a law degree is an undergraduate degre, while in the USA, it is a post graduate degree.
Bottom line -- get into as good a college as you can & do as well as you can. It doesn't really matter what your major is. Any bachelor's degree will qualify you for law school.
As you enter your senior year, you will want to apply to law schools. You may need to write an essay and you will have to take the LSATs (like the SATs).
If you can get into a top law school -- go there. If not, try to go to a law school in the state where you want to practice. That way, you will learn the right state laws as well as the right federal laws.
Once you graduate, you have to take the Bar Exam before you can practice law. Most people do a cram course after graduating and before taking the exam.

Major in Political Science or a related pre-law field. You would probably take some pre-law courses like Constitutional Law on the undergrad level.
While in collge, check out your own college or university to see if there is a law school there. If not, send out queries- and then go to the "Open Houses" if they have them. Some Law Schools will have visitor's days you can go there, talk to the faculty, law students and staff. Sometimes you can go to law school for a day.
If possible, intern or volunteer at a law firm in your specialty or interest.
Study hard for the LSAT and go from there. Good luck
