Basically, you head north out of LA on I-5 toward Glendale and Burbank.
You drive on I-5 until Exit 221 where you have to get to Route 99 toward Bakersfield.
You continue on Route 99 until you reach Exit 96 where you go east on Route 198 toward Visalia.
As you drive on Route 198, it becomes the Generals Highway which should take you to Sequoia National Park. You will have no problem in finding the Lodgepoe Campgrounds when you get there.

To Sequoia Park entrance: from Highway 99 at Visalia take Highway 198 east for approximately 1 hour.

Note: Reconstruction of 1 1/2 miles of the Generals Highway will begin mid-July of 2006. It is expected to continue through the fall of 2007, with a possibility of no work in the winter as weather conditions dictate. Construction will take place between Big Fern Spring, 9.2 miles from the Ash Mountain Entrance Station on Highway 198, and Amphitheater Point, which is 5.3 miles below the Giant Forest Museum in Sequoia National Park.

Work will occur on Mondays through Thursdays from 5AM until 9PM, and Fridays from 5AM to 5PM. Traffic waiting on both sides of the work area will be cleared every hour on the hour. Work is not anticipated on Saturdays and Sundays or federal holidays. The contractor will be required to hold to posted schedules that keep visitors impacts at a minimum. *********

The 16-miles of road from Ash Mountain to Giant Forest includes 130 curves and 12 switchbacks. Due to this, there is a vehicle-length advisory for the 12 steepest miles within that stretch. From Potwisha Campground to the Giant Forest Museum, the advised maximum vehicle length is 22 feet (6.7 m). The alternative: take Highway 180 from Fresno to Grant Grove, then turn south on the Generals Highway.

Maximum legal length limits on the Generals Highway are 40 feet (12 m) for single vehicles or 50 feet (15 m) for vehicles plus a towed unit. If you are towing a smaller vehicle, consider camping in the foothills and using the smaller car to explore.

To Kings Canyon Park entrance: from Highway 99 at Fresno take Highway 180 east approximately 1-1/4 hours.
