I've always been told it will give them a tummy ache. Even if your baby doesn't show any discomfort from it being cold, there is somehting else to think about. The baby has to burn alot of calories to process cold milk. At 2 mos, you want your baby gaining weight, not burning up calories needlessly. I think on occassion, such as when you are away from home, it would be ok, but I wouldnt do it every time.

Cold formula or breast milk for a 1 or 2 month old baby can upset their stomach. You should always warm it up at least until about 6 months or so.

It doen't make a difference nutritionally. It is more or less the baby's preference. I breastfeed, and whenever I have given my baby a bottle of expressed milk, I make sure it is warmed up.
As far as breastmilk goes, baby is USED to it being 'body temperature' from Momma. So I highly doubt a brestfed baby would like cold breastmilk. When cold, breastmilk also seperates into layers (of foremilk and cream). Warming and shaking it mixes the contents together again, and easily sucked through a bottle-nipple.
I do not formula feed, but some people I know give their baby formula with water from the tap which tends to be cold...and they don't mind because that is how they have always had it.
Babies definetly form a preference early on. And then they are the ones who dictate if the bottle needs to be warm or not. :o)

No cows milk at 2 months old, cold or warm. It is difficult to have cold brest milk unless you pump and store, then I would warm that up and formula can be made with lukewarm water. I doubt the baby would take a cold bottle, most won't. A few seconds to warm the bottle is a much better idea then dealing with a sore baby belly!

I wouldn't reccomend it. Cold milk/formula is hard for babies to digest for whatever reason. They usually end up spitting it right back up during burping. It should be slightly warmed or room temperature at the very least. (I know it's difficult to find a microwave or stove for public use when you're out.) If you are worried about the temperature of the formula/milk heat up a bunch of it and put it in a thermos. That'll keep it warm enough for the baby and all you'll have to do is pour it in the bottle when it's feeding time. Either that or find a restroom and just wait until the water is warm enough to mix it. (That's for powder formulas.)

Probably not such a good idea. The cold milk will upset and confuse the baby. It has a tendency to make the baby shiver as if cold too. Baby's prefer body temp milk. When the baby gets to be 6 mos or better then he/she will get to where he/she can handle chilled drinks. Till then warm it up. How long does it take anyway 5-10 seconds....?????

You can, but I would suggest making it at least room temperature. My husband and I have a couple friend who always gave their baby her formula right out of the refrigerator from birth and she drank it just fine. You condition your baby to accept it's surroundings and environment as well as what food it eats and how. It will not hurt your baby to give him/her cold milk/formula. It's actually probably a smart thing to do....that way when you are out and about you don't have to stop to warm up a bottle! :)

I wouldn't give regular cold milk!! Is that what you mean???
If you mean cold breast/formula milk then I would just warm it a little, you don't want your baby's stomach to start aching!!!!

I just started giving my 7-month old daughter cold formula milk as the weather here in Fiji is reaching up to 33 degrees Celsius... really hot and humid and I guess the cold milk is working as she had refused milk for a while and now shes draining her bottle...... so I guess its ok, as long as its not too cold.........

Yes, giving cold milk is fine. It's my experience (having two boys of my own) that when they're newborn, they prefer the milk/formula to be at least room temp, if not warmer, but giving it to them cold won't hurt a thing.
