How do you RIP a CD? I know how to RIP a DVD.
Check for spyware and viruses. Get rid of your 486 computer.
It should not take long for a CD, even if you just copy the entire disk.
If it were a DVD-9 It should take 23 minutes tops with an efficient 2.8GHZ P4 computer and a high-speed drive.

No, this is not right ... unless you have either a very slow computer, or a very slow CD drive. I generally only rip a few songs, but they seem to rip about 8 times faster than playing the song.

It depends on your computer specifications. How fast it is, how much RAM, how fast your CD drive is, how many other processes are running. Also depends on what is on the CD.
For a standard, store-issued music CD. It takes me 5-10 minutes to rip 16 songs of about 3MB each onto my computer. My computer's specs are: 1.6GHz Intel Pentium 4, 512MB RAM, 16X CD-ROM. No other processes (besides system processes) are running during the ripping.

Nah, that shouldn't be the case. It's either your comp or the cd drive... most likely your cd burner. I had one that crapped out on me once too, it was a sony cwx or something like that... A burn/rip whatever should take no more than 30 minutes.

Depends on a lot of things. What kind of CDs? How fast is your computer? How much RAM do you have? How much free hard drive space do you have? What format are you ripping the CD into? What's your favorite color? Do you like cheese? I like cheese.

It depends on your computer and the speed of your cd-drive, also the quality of the "rip", but no it should not take anywhere near this amount of time.

It depends on how much RAM you have on your computer. Most ripping programs are made for computers that have at least 500 MB RAM, but if you have less, it could take longer. So, if your computer is older, that is probably the reason, but if it is brand new, that is most likely not the case, though some computers are still made with less RAM.
