You will need the following:
1 Cable Modem
1 Coaxial cable (Goes from cable jack to modem)
1 RJ45 cable/Ethernet cable (Goes from modem to computer)

All of these items are generally provided by the cable company when you lease a cable modem from them. Otherwise, the cables MAY be provided when you buy your own cable modem. If you do buy your own, check to see if they are included before you get home.

Edit: Once you have the hardware hooked up, call your cable company and have them activate everything for you.

Good luck!

Internet connection needs the following:-
* Computer with good configuration
* Internet Service Provider at your area.
* Can have Either Cable or Wireless connection.
Don't worry about the Router. It is a Network device that routes the traffic in internet.
Note:- Most of the latest phones comes with the builtin Modem.

First of all, you'll need an active phone line. Plug in one of your phone cords to the computer. If you don't want to spend too much on internet service, you can try downloading Netzero or Juno for $9.95 a month. If you want to pay a little more for dsl, try SBC Yahoo or for cable, try Comcast. If you have no internet at all to access these websites, you will need an internet disc. You'll have to figure out what stores offer free internet discs where you can insert in the cd-rom. These discs usually offer a 30 day free trial.
