I was half-jokingly talking with someone about this: Say you have a shower on the second floor. Could the sewage line from the shower be routed so that it sprayed out onto the lawn? Mind you, NOT THE TOILET, but just the sewage pipe from the shower. So basically, dirty, soapy water would spray out on the lawn.

Would this work, or would this be completely insane?

I doubt the ingredients in your soaps and shampoos would be beneficial to your lawn.
so I don't think it would be too great an idea.

To answer it directly, yes it can be done, but would best be done at the time of the plumbing rough-in, not a retro-fit

tincre is correct, if you want to pay for and create your own filtering system then it wouid be OK, still best done during house construction and not afterward.

Have you *read* your shampoo and conditioner bottles?!! Do you really want that stuff out there for the grass, the animals, the birds and whatever. For shame!! I bet you use those stinky men with all the killer chemicals in their trucks on your lawn, too, right? And, yes, there is a *big* difference between what you can do, what you should do, and what you are allowed to do by law. Ain't it the truth (LOL!).

It would work fine...But I believe you have to store the Grey water in a tank before spraying it on your lawn..

I know that its ok to run your washing machine water out into your yard. Well, I don't know about city ordeneces or anything, but I know out in the country my aunt runs hers out into a field.

it would probably be illegal depending on where you live. it would also be unsanitary. there is the possibility of contaminating groundwater. this is especially problematic if you have a well.
