but many aren't. Why those who are racist are to such a high degree that they denigrate anything that is not them, be it European, Latinamerican, Asian, Jewsih, or African or catholic, why?

I disagree with Zechariah S and David W. Ignorance breeds ignorance. We are not all racists. They just get the media attention.

You need look no farther than our horrible public education system in America. We are not taught to honor and respect the cultural differences of others. We are not taught to ask questions and discuss the how's and why's of things. Yet here we are, perhaps one of the most powerful countries on the globe today, and yet our education system is one of the worst. I wouldn't call it racism. I would call it ignorance.

Everybody is a racist, whether they know it or not. Because racism is just thinly guised discrimination of those who are different, and we've all passed judgements against those we do not like.
