I heard it was more likely to die in a car than to die in an airplane. Does anyone know how many airplanes have crashed in history?

Well on average there are about 9000 flights per day... the last plane to go down was only a few days ago but if you take 9000 flights per day for 365 days a year... that is alot (too lazy to do the math)... now take into consideration only 1-2 planes go down in a year on average sometimes more sometimes none.. so that is pretty good... and yes more people die in a car in one day then all the aircraft (Minus Military planes) go down in history... so get up in the sky already.. your missing out on alot of time saved if you travel alot...

Statistically, it is more likely that you will die in a car accident. However, now that flying has become so time efficient for travelers, there are more planes in the air, which means more air traffic to control, and the probability of more mechanical issues. The other problem with the idea of a plane crash, is that you have no control. With a car, you do, to a point. In a plane, all you can do is watch the ground rush at you, unless the plane just explodes, which is what I would hope for. Its also the amount of deaths involved. Instead of one or two or even four fatalities, a 200 person flight is going to lose at least 80% of its passengers. That's a lot!
As far as your phobia, ask your doctor for some Valium or Xanax. At least four!

I've actually heard you are more likely to get attacked by a shark than die in an airplane. So, I'd say your chances of making it out ok, are awesome.. You'll be fine!!
