No the rule is always if its not an exact match then contrast, so a light blue shirt or red would be Ok.

Just about any shirt color with a black suit and black tie will look fine, though I would avoid wearing something really dark that could be misconstrued as being black, ie navy blue. You should really be wearing a color that compliments your date's outfit. If its going to be blue, make sure its light enough that you can tell the difference from the color of your suit without having to look closely.

Navy and black should never really be seen together, however if the shirt is bluish/purple, that would work well, can look pretty classy in my opinion, however I would go with a lighter contrast tie. Good Luck for your prom X

Dark blue and black is not a good combination, maybe just try an shirt without a tie if you want to go casual? And jewellry should be fine as long as they vaguely match.

Sounds good to me. is she wearing the blue/purple color? If thats the case how about a white shirt, with a tie with that color in it? Maybe a bit more conserative... you'll appericate those pics. more in 20 years...
