How many of you think Trot Nixon is playing better ball this year then in years past.

His contract is coming due at the end of this season

Will the Red Sox sign him or let another fairly decent player head to another team

No that's my worst fear.I don't wanna lose Nixon, he has really played some of the best ball in his career this season.Defensively, hes amazing, at the plate, hes more patient and consistent.I hope Epstein is not an idiot, and lets him get away, if anyone should go it should be Manny. As a Red Sox fan, I'm sick of his antics. He brings embarrassment and disrespect to the game of baseball and the organization of the Red Sox.Trot is a team player, and hes just a stand up guy, period.

This has been one of the better seasons that Trot has had. He has been playing more games, making some really good catches, and hitting very well. The Red Soxs should sign him not just because he is doing well, but he is a Red Soxs veteran and a quiet fan favorite of over ten years. It would be a small, but noticeable, blow to the Red Soxs.

Trot Nixon is playing great this year, but he makes nearly 8 million dollars a year and he is getting older and more injury prone every year. The Red Sox will gladly bring him back if they can at a discount price, but they will not give him big long-term money. By next year, the Red Sox have already penciled in Wily Mo Pena as their starting right-fielder, who you'll know did an outstanding job during Coco Crisp's absence, before he got hurt himself. So, I believe that they will let him move on because after trading Bronson Arroyo, the Red Sox are pot committed to Wily the Mo(as I like to call him).

I think he gets signed for Varitek money (4/40). Fenway's right field is very difficult to learn and he plays it extremely well. He is also a guy that shows up every day (when not injured, of course) and plays hard. I'm not sure he's going to get a ton of interest in the free agent market outside of the clubs that see him frequently in the East.

With the mix of young talent they have on the club that comes a bit cheaper (Papelbon, Youkilis, Gonzalez, Hanson, etc.), they can afford to spend a little more than he will get on the open market (except for the Yankees if they want him) in order to keep him around. The only problem I see is if he is upset about not having an extension signed already (a la Damon, Pedro) and he WANTS to leave for that reason. I have not heard anything like this from him, but it is a possibility

Of course, I may be a little biased as I really like this club and hope the nucleus stays together a bit longer than the '04 club did.

I hope that the Red Sox keep Trot. He is hitting over .300 this year and his fielding and throwing have been spectacular throughout his career. But as to whether the Sox will resign him, Theo will probably consider Trot's continuing injuries in formulating an offer. Trot has only been with the Sox since he came to the Majors in 1999 and memories of his bases loaded double in the fourth game of the World Series make him a favorite. I bet the Yankees would love him, if only to deny the Red Sox. All told, he probably stays, as they have Coco locked up in center, Manny (with Wily Mo as a back up) in left. I would hate for them to have to start looking for a new right fielder. Unlike left fielders, they don't grow on trees.

Fist of all... He has been with the Red Sox organization his entire baseball carreer.. (minor and major) and he made his major league debut in September of 1996. That right there should be enough to sign him again. He is the an awesome right fielder and Willy Mo sucks. He can not play right field. Right field in Fenway is very hard to play and not just anyone can do it. I am really hoping that the Sox keep him but I fear they won't.

Trot will not make or break the Red Sox this season or next season. It is a matter of Theo maybe having to let him go to free up some money to fix the pitching situation in the off season. It looks like Wells is done or least will no longer be effective enough to carry again next year. Schilling may have been our messiah in 04 and our ace right now, but I think next year will be rough for him (Like the Unit's having this year for the Yanks) and he is going to need a very solid back-up to replace him in the rotation next season as he bouncing on and off the DL. Gabe Kapler can hold right field down, and he gets on base enough to not make the loss of Trot feel like a big deal. As for the important contracts that need a look over in the off season: Manny (redsoxfan has got it right again) it is time for him to go, Youk needs to get signed for more years, and we need to pick-up Melky Cabrera from the Yanks to play left in Manny's absence. He is going to be one of best hitters/fielders in the league before the decade is up...I'd hate to see him stuck on the Yanks, when he can be mentored by Big Papi and eventually replace him as he degrades. We will just have to wash off any taint he got on him from the collision he had with Judas earlier in this season.

Redsoxfan...lets be serious now. Manny leave now that is stupid. Even with his behavior the guy is still one of the best hitters to ever play the game. If Manny leaves then Ortiz will not be able to produce like he does right now. I think that someone will offer a ton of money to Nixon and he will be gone. We just don't have the cash that another team will be willing to offer.

Nixon is gone at the end of the year unless he agrees to a significant home town discount. Willy Mo is waiting in the wings to replace either him or Manny. If they resign Nixon, Manny will be gone before spring training.

Yes, Trot Nixon is playing the best baseball of his career. My guess is that they will let him go to free agency where he will do fairly well. He is expendable with Willie Joe Pena coming along and Harris in the wings. Personally, I think they should sign him and not let him get away; however, I don't think they will.

Have to call them as I see them.
