Does Yahoo Messenger solicit you with messages?

So if someone has a message waiting it is definitely someone else, not Yahoo?

Yahoo! does occasionally send messages to users, announcing different offers and events and the like.

it could be a bot - there are programs where people can send thousands of messages per second to thousands of people trying tog et them to go to porn sites
