1. Was this a gift from a loved-one/good friend?
2. Can I use this article for a good purpose?
3. Can this broken piece be fixed?
4. Do I ever use this?
5. Do I ever wear this? Even as pajamas?
6. Will I really regret the loss of this item later?
I do hope that when you get rid of some things, that you consider giving them to other people who can use/would like them. If you don't know anyone personally, at least donate the items to charity.

I am not a packrat, but have a problem with things I don't need too. I say, have I used this in the last 6 months? Have or will I use it in the next month? Could someone other then myself benifit from this article? Then donate, and you will feel better. Good Luck

I too, was a packrat. My husband and I have been married 7 years and we went and bought a new house. When we moved, we had accumulated 7 years of junk. We donated almost our entire housefull of belongings to charity. Furniture, bedding, clothes, dishes, everything you can imagine. I was sad at having to get rid of everything, but it was for the best. I am happier in the long run, than I would have been if I had kept everything I had. Just remember if you haven't used it, are not planning on using it, or will eventually have the money to upgrade into the same thing, but nicer...GET RID OF IT!!

Hello, fellow packrat! I ask myself why am I saving this? If its just too good to throw away you could try selling it on ebay or at a consignment store. Or you could donate it to a charity like Goodwill or Salvation army. Part of their funding is through thrift stores. If you think you "might need it later" try to define under what circumstances you might need it and decide how likely those circumstances are. Or you could go ahead and arrange the circumstances yourself sometimes. Hope this helps

1. When is the last time it was used?
2. Did someone give it to you?
3. Are you just keeping it for sentimental reasons?
4. Are you going to be using it in the next year?
I've gotten rid of a LOT of clutter with #1 and 3!

The easiest question and foremost is: How easy is this to replace if I want another one... case in point if you have an old collectable train set that fetches a good penny on auction and you haven't seen one in 10 years well that would be a keeper... on the flip side if you have a bunch of old clothes you don't wear and won't again... those you can just go to the store and get again.. availability... should be number one.. it is for me anyway... hope this helps

If you haven't used it or worn it in the past 6 months, you won't miss it.
UNLESS we are talking about sentimental stuff, photographs, etc.
When looking around your home at everything (especially homes of people who collect things) ask yourself "Do I really want to dust this again?" Every item you keep becomes an item you must care for..therefore a burden. Lighten your load!

When was the last time I used this? Will I ever use this again? Why am I keeping this? Do I have room to keep this? Or there is always calling in Clean Sweep and listening to Peter ask you these questions.

Decide whether or not what you're keeping serves any real purpose in your life. Pictures are always a good thing to keep though.
