I would definitely recommend moving away from home. The freedom is great! But if you think you'll miss them lots try somewhere reasonably close. Home cooked meals and washing dirty laundry will be greatly appreciated by the end of the first semester/term. Try and get a place as close to Uni as possible, it means you can lie in that extra bit longer in the morning. If you can try and meet the people you would be living with (in halls of residence or a shared house), these people will make a big difference as to whether or not you enjoy the first year.
If you really can't leave home, don't worry. You can always choose to move out at a later date.
Have fun!

University is about a great deal more than just getting a degree. If you do not leave the family home and go to stay in halls then you will miss out on the most important formative times of your life. You might miss your family, some people do - but they get over it and make great friends and learn important life skills whilst developing true independance. Plus you get to see your parents outside of term time anyway if you miss them that much.
As a graduate though and having friends who did stay at home I would advise you very strongly to move out and go for it feet first.

Definitely, if you can afford it. There's a lot more to college than classes. I went from a midwestern high school with 180 in the senior class to a university with 30,000 students, and it was an eye-opener! I found out how different people really can be, and got to know them and appreciate their points of view. Then, when I went to law school, I moved back home to save money. After that, I became a hermit. The only places I went were school and home. I think I learned more about dealing with people, and saw more of what the world is really like, than I ever would have if I hadn't gone away.

I'm claiming if you can afford to move away from home to attend college, go for it. You'll learn more about yourself living independently (well, pseudo-independently) than you will living at home with your folks-- you've been doing that your whole life.
But it can go both ways, you know? All that freedom could make you or break you. But that's what's so extraordinary about it.
I say pursue it-- family is always there to back you up and support you. Take the chance. Start living for real.
Good luck.

It is a difficult decision. When you are close to your family you don't want to leave them, on The other hand you want to experience life on your own. Sit with you parents and talk about it. Pros and cons. Can you afford to move away? Can you afford to come back home for holidays and summer? things like this may make the difference.
Good Luck, and good to hear you are going to go to college...it is a wonderful experience and you won't get a very good Job without it.

definately move away, its scary to start with but you get a much better uni experience and you learn a hell of a lot more about life and about yourself than you ever would at home. Also its not like you'd never see your family or friends at home, after 3 months of summer holidays you'll be fed up of them again. I wanna go back to uni and i've only been home for 2 weeks

yes, you will have much more fun and freedom if you move out of home, you will also get a chance to make many more friends not just those on your course but those you live with. I met 2 of my very best mates in hall of residence on the first day of uni, I still see them all the time 6 years later.

Move away, you'll get the real uni experience... living with friends etc. University is about learning a lot more than your course, you'll grow and mature living away from home, and enjoy it a LOT more.

Yes, I would thoroughly recommend moving away. I was a chicken-sh1t little twerp when I moved away and the first 3 weeks were horrible. But it's a huge chance to develop, experiment, find yourself and grow up. Very very well worth it.

Pros: more independence, grow up faster, learn more about oneself, freedom to explore, wider choice of schools
Cons: more expensive, no established support group if trouble arises, could be dangerous if not careful in choosing buddies
It's up to you whether you can live with the cons of moving, but I did it and am glad I did.
