Oprah

I think she is sanctimonious and vain. It scares me that she is regarded as doing a lot to advance black people, when it appears, at least to me, that she is doing exactly the opposite.

She is way, way to wealthy. Did she cut a good deal? How many others may have been dealt out? Her extreme wealth is a form of tokenism. It makes it appear that blacks are getting a lot just because she is richissime. The way I see it is this: A few select individuals are getting way more money than they know how to get into trouble with, while the majority of them are still impovershed, oppressed and underfed. I am referring mainly to the situation in the United States.

Furthermore, her book list sucks! I remember reading one of them (nonfiction genre) that seemed to contain major factual inaccuracies. e.g. Moslems in the king's household in Morocco opening dozens and dozens of Christmas presents in their households, Moslems in Morocco holding baptism ceremonies for babies and having elaborate teas afterwards (just like wealthy Christians might do as in the household of the Queen of England), bats in Morocco landing in front of people and staring them right in the eyes, like they were looking right into their souls (bats are blind, aren't they?)

Oprah carries this "we women" thing way too far. Are women only supposed to bond with other women and not with men? Is Oprah their major voice of authority? Is Oprah trustworthy just because she is a woman?

I remember when Oprah's show was criticized for hiring guests who were paid to tell sensational stories that were not true.

Furthermore, do black people really need to have it pointed out patronizingly that Oprah is black and intelligent too, in order to receive acknowledgement that they are intellectually competent people on par with the rest of the world or nation?
