Good Question ! Some Christian Churches focus on the New Testament and that is understandable. However, the Old Testament has wisdom in it, also. The books of Genesis, Exodus, and Leviticus are filled with Civil Laws. Civil Laws are totally different than Spiritual Laws. The command actually is : don't judge another person spiritually.
Jesus understood that there is civil law and he directed people to be obedient to the laws of Caesar. Jesus, himself, was jailed with Barabbas, and Barabbas had been found guilty in a Civil Court. Jesus was tried in a Civil Court for a Spiritual crime and that was WRONG.
Only God knows our hearts, according to the Bible, and he is the only one who can judge our spirituality.
Thanks for the question. Good Luck !

A judge is not so much a judge of the worth of a man. A judge only adjucates between two people, saying which is more right with the laws.
"Judge not lest ye be judged" was in relation to the fundimentalists at the time condemning others in the eyes of God. Basically along the same lines as the modern fundimentalists telling everyone who doesn't believe the exact same thing they do that they will go to hell.

A judge in the judicial system is not judging other people....he's only judging their actions in a certain instance. He has the right, because we, the people elected him to do just that. He is enforcing mans laws, not God's laws.

Because they are two different things. The judging in the Bible is judging others' sins and their souls, which only God can do. (Now think about this when you hear people screeching about 'greedy' oil companies and drug companies and rich people - all that Biblical judging going on).
In the court, the people are being judged for breaking the law.
Not the same thing.

Because the judicial system tries to be objective, that is emulate God. I don't think the Bible said anywhere that criminals shouldn't be punished for their crimes. It said that it is not us, through our limited, personal view of the world that should give the judgement. The judge in modern day law tries to separate himself from both parties when he is doing his duty. He doesn't pass judgement on his own behalf, but only after the acusation has proven the defendant guilty / the jury decided him guilty and he does so following strict laws.

A judge has to judge between two people if one has done the other some wrong. In the old testament, there are rules, which the judges had to follow.
When Christ said. "Judge not, lest ye be judged." You have to read further where He said "Judge with righteous judgment." meaning
ask God for wisdom to judge rightly.

Because we are not a christian country. Our government, including the judicial system is not based on the bible. In the very first treaty that the United States ever negotiated and signed we stated that we were not a country based on christianity. This treaty was approved by the senate unanimously.

The world is losing sight of the law of God, and implementing the law of man. I guess it can only be expected to do that. Nobody should have room to judge except God. Apparently Congress didn't like that idea lol.

Also states in the Bible that man should follow the laws of the land. Meaning he should follow any laws that his fellow man as created.
Man has created judges, jury, courts. So in God's eyes we are not doing wrong.

Because of the U.S. Constitution, we are not permitted to have laws that establish any one religion as dominant, and that includes the Christian religion's notion of "judge not." Several other religions don't have problems with people judging.
The real question is why so many lawyers, judges and politicians claim to be Christian, when passing judgment on people is forbidden by their religion.
