Just because Leinart, Bush, and LenDale White are gone, don't expect the Trojans to be cupcakes this season.
Pete Carroll is a great coach, and has consistently ranked at the top of recruiting classes. Even though those superstar playmakers have left, USC has great depth. Be assured that John David Booty or Mark Sanchez (whoever wins the starting QB position) will be another potent signal caller with a hot arm. Remember after the 2002 season when Heisman winner Carson Palmer left? No one thought USC had a QB until this kid named Matt Leinart stepped in and won his own hardware... The USC receiving corps, led by Dwayne Jarrett and Steve Smith, are some of the best in the nation. Center Ryan Kalil anchors a tough, albeit inexperienced, O-Line. And the Trojans Defense is just as strong. While they lost some starters, the game is in November--plenty of time for them to gel around preseason All-Americans like LBs Keith Rivers and Oscar Lua, DE Lawrence Jackson, and SS Dallas Sartz.
On the other hand, the Berkeley Bears will be very good this year. Everything might hinge on the solid return of Nate Longshore. His broken leg last season in the opener against Sacramento State left the Bears slumping around less-than-impressive backup Joe Ayoob. That said, however, the Bears still ranked 26th in Total Offensive, rallying around STUD RB Marshawn Lynch. While the O-Line is young, the entire receiving corps returns, including Sophomore WR DeSean Jackson (who averaged 15.8 yards per catch last year). The Bears Defense returns seven starters, with the biggest losses at the FS and SS positions. CB Daymeion Hughes is a seriously great d-back, and will add pressure to whichever great receiver the Trojans throw his way.
You're right, this could easily determine which team wins the PAC-10. But it could be even more than that, though. If they avoid injuries and the upset bug, these teams could both be undefeated for their meeting on November 18. This could very well determine which team plays for the National Championship.
USC needs to be careful not to look forward to their game against Notre Dame the following week. Cal needs to play hard vs. UCLA and at Arizona the two weeks prior to traveling to the Coliseum to prevent any upsets.
California has been the underdog the last 11 times these teams have met, and have snuck away with a win five of those times. USC hasn't lost at home since the fourth game of the 2001 season (they lost to Stanford in Pete Carroll's first season). Expect the Bears to be the underdog again, but I think that they will shock Carroll and his Trojans this November, making the last dozen meetings an even 6-6 split. Again, it all depends on the QB position for the Bears. If Longshore steps in and is the playmaker we all think he can be, then the Trojans will lose this game.

First of all..PROPS to TILLER on his answer....I like it, and as I College football junkie I must agree(somewhat)...True USC, CANNOT look ahead to Notre Dame and the OLine is without big game experience...however the Oline got plenty of playing time last year during some of the SC asskickin's and at QB if John David has got his thumb out of his *** this should be an SC victory on their way to a record 4th straight Pac-10 Title.
Don't Cry for Cal though this is a Top 10 Team with a killer ground game and top-notch "d". UCLA,Oregon and Arizona St. could make a run at USC too...the gap is closing!

The Golden Bears have done well in recent years - and USC was completely shattered by Texas in the championship game. With such substantial turnover and the effect of that loss at the end of last year, the Trojans may have a very hard time getting themselves together.
However, by November both teams should be in almost their best form. I rate this one a toss-up - the Bears for more experience and a steady rate of improvement; USC for pride and a history of building back up.

That is a silly question, USC will dominate that game. Cal will go home broken hearted, they don't stand a chance, even with some players gone. USC still has a lot of back up. They will still be a team to contend with.
