This is simple, man: Reduce the intake and Increase the Output. I know, I know: easier said then done.
I'm 6'2" and was able to go from 230 to 180 over a year without really affecting my life dramatically. Here's what I did:
1. Cut out the condiments. No mayo, no creamy dressings, no butter, etc. I didn't really change what or where I ate (still mcDonalds some days, for example) but I cut out the part that's the worst for me.
2. Always leave something behind. No matter what meal I eat I always leave some on the plate. I used to basically eat until i was "full" and couldn't eat more. Now I eat until I'm "not hungry." There's a big difference there!
3. Make sure that deserts and snacks are really the TOP of your food pyramid. If you're eating a chips or something, don't eat from the bag/box. Pour what you think is a good serving into a bowl and don't go back for more.
4. Put yourself on a schedule. Eat three meals a day, every day, on as close of a schedule as you can manage. The point here is to regulate your food intake and CUT OUT SNACKS.
5. Find a market within walking distance and start walking there every other day. It's important to keep fresh fruits and vegitables on hand. When you do want a snack, eat the apple or carrots or whatever. My suggestion is to buy organic. Organics don't last as long, though, so you'll need to purchase only a couple days worth at a time. Look for a "Whole Foods" market in your city.
6. EXCERISE. In order for this to work you're going to need to find something you ENJOY. For me, this was buying a road bike. I enjoy the hi speeds. For you it could be swimming, jogging, etc. If you can't find an excerise that really suits you, then go get a dog and walk 3 miles every night. The dog will love you and you'll love yourself.
It all comes down to DECREASE THE INPUT and INCREASE THE OUTPUT. You don't need a diet. Diet's suck. You need to make a million small changes, not a couple huge ones. By doing this, you'll build habits that encourage a healthy, fit, and happy lifestyle for years to come.

You poor poor poor product of society *hugs* It's all an illusion sweetie, all of it. This idea that you must look an act a "gender" as if long hair and **** somehow makes you a better person is a horrible awful lie that's been so ingrained in our culture it's overflowing sexism in our language. This idea that you must be skinny, small, pretty girl for everyone to like and accept you is an idea that came about within the last 25-40 years. 40 years ago there was a modle named "twiggy" who set off the entire anorexic movement as she was unrealisitically skinny. 25 years ago started the whole consumerism on teens as before that teens really didn't have a lot of money from their parents other than lunch money- but when the economy is good, parents must work more, so the liklihood of a child's allowance being raised goes up so there was this huge marketing frontier to try and get younger kids to by their stuff. Market researched lead marketers to press this idea of an over feminized, ideally perfect image of a woman (barbie) and idea that has horrifically transformed into shapes that are impossible for girls to look like; which becomes a new standard of "pretty". This is why a lot of people hate Bratz dolls. There is a reason everyone is so pretty and gorgeous on TV, yet the people at the grocrey store are not. The people who live around you are what's real, what's on the TV is just an illusion trying to change you. Ignore it. It will mess you up for life. I see it all the time, and honestly those women are confused people who everyone hates, yes they're very, very pretty.. but no body likes them. Be who you are, say what's on your mind, be responsible, and seize life because this is the only shot you get at existing. Why lose 10 lbs? Will people like you more? If so, which people? Do these people like you for your skills and merits, or your weight? If you gained 10 lbs would these people stand up for you in a fight? Be who you are; and do you what you feel because those who mind don't matter; and those who matter don't mind.

You don't need a personal trainer. Invest in some good running shoes and hit the pavement or get on a treadmill. It's a VERY simple equasion...eat less and move more. Cut out junk food, eat healthy...lots of veggies, fruit, lean proteins (chicken, fish), lots of water (not fruit juices and soda). You have a long way to go before you start worrying about developing tight abdominals, first burn off that fat then build your abdominals by doing crunches.

Just stay away from fast food or eat it in moderation. Drink lots and lots of water! no sodas! workout maybe five days a week for a hour in a half. before you get to the gym already have in your mind the excercise equipment you want to work on. Include lots of fruits in your diet to replace sweets. You are making a good start by joining a gym. write out an excercise routine. Example:
45 minutes on treadmill
25 minutes on bike
etc etc
carry a bottle of water with you and sip from it. water helps fight off hunger

In the mood for some sort of hot meal? Make a massive pot of veggie bean soup, divide into two-cup containers, and store inside the freezer. Before bed, place a container inside the fridge, then grab it before heading out the door the next day.

The healthy way to lose weight is to change your eating habits and exercise. I don't mean go on a diet, but literally change your eating habits. Eat 3 square meals everyday and snack on fruits through out the day. Eating small amounts of food throughout the day will guarantee that you never have an empty belly, you won't overeat at meal time and you will have the energy you need. I personally don't recommend any one "diet". Eating healthy is common sense really. You know what is good for you. As far as exercising. Definately work on situps for your belly. If you have the extra cash and spare room I would recommend a weight bench. The weight bench is more flexible and always there. You can workout at home daily and use it to get rid of excess stress or tension. Set yourself realistic goals and realize that you will have to work hard for this, but it will be well worth it. Good Luck!
