Unfortunately there is even prejudice within the Black community. Lighter skinned Black people are seen as more attractive. I think the history of that prejudice goes back to the days when , because of the raping of the Black women by the slave holders, many children born to Black women were lighter in skin tone. Some were so light they passed as white people. And since it was, in those days better to be white, lighter skin became a thing to value. Hence even the Black community saw the lighter skin as more handsome.

Well it depends on how some African Americans were raised...I know in some families the aunts and grandmothers would treat the lighter skinned neices/nephews and grandchildren a little better...it all depends. For me personally, I don't care, if your black your black I don't care about what shade, sure I can tell light from dark, but I don't care, just as long as the brotha is fine and treats me right, I don't see a shade, and I'm sure the African American males feel the same way...minus the brotha part, of course!

no. thats not true. but there is racism among different races. the lighter shade of black people have all ways been shown on tv as the more believable and not has aggressive they dont promote the fear in white people that the darker skinned blacks do. and that has kinda separated us cause the lighter skinned black get better treatment ( sometimes) it goes back to slavery. the lighter skinned blacks were all ways in the masters house and the darker were out picking the cotton. BUT WERE STILL BLACK.

That has been a huge issue for years. Especially with black women.
If you don't believe me-do this.
1) think of all the black actress out there and how many are Omar Epps, Wesley Snipes, Bernie Mac's or Seal's skin tone.
2) why was there such an uproar about the new Claire on My WIfe & Kids? The show called racist for replacing the dark skinned daughter with the bright one.

This was started way back in slavery when white people tried to set the black race against each other by skin color. For example giving the lighter skinned people (their dads were usually white) easier work in the house, not the field. It has a long history and was not started by black people. In fact they used to advertise jobs in the paper only for light skinned blacks etc. Very sad.

Well, I'll just say this. Our race has trouble with that aspect. Some people are like that. They just think that lighter skinned black people have this certain beauty about it.They think that the darker you are the more *****r attitude you will possess. They think that you will be dirty and no good. Alot of people believe that. They might don't come out and say it but thats what most of them think. I think that all shades of black are beautiful. But everyone has that feeling about lighter skinned blacks have beauty that can be regconized better.

It's really a damn shame. On music videos all u see are light-skin women on occasion u will see a dark-skinned woman on a video. I'm dark-skin myself and it's really not fair. It goes back to the slavery years. But it's not only in my race is everywhere. Every shade is beautiful. To some people your not beautiful if your not light-skin. Which is definitly not true!!

Yes. Black people have their preferences as well. But be careful not to generalize. Not all black people prefer lighter shade. Just like all black people don't like watermelon.
