My mother knew....though I don't know how. But yes, I think most mother's know simply because masturbating requires secrecy and time and so whenever they notice a son all of a sudden spending more time alone, I think they naturally assume what he is doing. But it's all good, because she and your Dad did it when they were your age too...and maybe still do.

Five or so years ago, my mother walked into my room when I was masturbating to a guy's picture online. It was one of the most embarrassing experiences in my life.
