Go for a walk on the beach all three of you, and have him go looking for seashells, and when he comes back have him show her the shells he found and have one of them be the ring.

Ask her if you can take him out for a little bit and have her meet you somewhere romantic later that night. When you're ready, have him be the one to hand her the ring. (have it in the box and not loose) While she's opening it, do your thing and pop the question.
Not knowing what the little guy is like I would just mention that if this is too much, I'm sure you including him in this will really mean a lot to her no matter what!
Congratulations!

You could first take him out (just you and him) and explain to him that you love his mother and that you would like not only her but him as well to be in your life forever. Just because he is 3 1/2 doesn't mean he that he doesnt understand. When you propose have him give her the ring. Make it a big deal that he's involved.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Go to the Zoo or plan an outdoor activity. Have him give her the ring. Being three I know that's tricky, but inform him what you want to do and then slip it to him right before you ask. Or something like that. Or ask him if it would be ok if you could be his step daddy then give her a ring. Make it a very big deal. A woman never forgets that special moment.

I hear ya - my girlfriend had a 6 year old who I absolutely adored. One simple idea would be to pay tribute to him in your proposal - speak to how he has enriched your life, and your relationship, in so many ways. I think it would be important to her that her son be acknowledged as part of the complete package - so to make reference to how he has contributed to your life in the proposal would certainly go a long way. And when speaking of a future together, be sure to make it known that you mean for ALL of you.

Plus, when you get the ring out for her, have a little something on the side for him that symbolizes your commitment to him - something he will enjoy and appreciate of nominal value. A gesture guaranteed to win her good favor and an instant, teary "yes" reply!

I think it's wonderful that you would want to include him. If it were me, I would ask the son what he thinks about me asking his mommy to marry me and we would all be a family. If son is all excited, tell him not to tell mommy yet(just be sure to ask her the same day!)it's a surprise and what would be the sweetest thing in the world, is tell the son to ask the mommy for you. Then of course, you give her the ring, that way he's apart of it and she'll feel like you want them both. You're ready for that kind of commitment. Good Luck.

I had a 5 year old participate in my proposal (unplanned). I had planned to propose and had the ring. The little girl says, "You two should get married." I told my wife, "I think that's a good idea, what about you?" and pulled the ring.

i would have him give her the ring but if you are gonna do that attach the ring or the ring box to something like a pillow so that you are sure the ring will get to your girlfriend, cause you don't want the little boy to drop the ring. i think the shirt idea is really cute take them out to dinner and have him wearing a custom shirt saying something like "say yes" cause then she'll wonder what the shirt means and you can propose to her and he can hand her the ring

I like shea's answer, but where is his father. You need to consider this when involving the son. If the father is totally out of the picture then shea's got a good idea. If the father is a big part of the boys life then you probably need to consider a different approach.

Have him carry in the ring (maybe on top of a cake) after you are down on your knees proposing. He'll be excited because he gets to be a part of ya'lls wonderful moment plus happily eating cake while ya'll sneak out of sight to kiss.
