People who are highly religious are crazy mad at this book. IT'S FICTION, YOU IDOTS! THE WRITER DIDN'T WRITE IT TO MAKE IT NON-FICTION!!! Gees, you people are crazy! It's not a bad book, it's actually quite interesting, and these "Jesus-Freaks" need to get over themselves and try reading it, or watching the movie. Stop judging a book by it's cover(no pun intended)!!

well to searos,
frankly I don't believe in religion, But even if I did, I would know that a fiction book is just a fistion book, and I would never try to change that, even though loonies are too good for great works by writers smart enought to write a book like this!
ps. I'm sorry if I have offended anyone, I didn't mean it

Tommysportsgirl--
I nver called you a "bible thumping idiot" and who said ANYTHING about NASCAR? I just asked a simple question, only pointing fingers at people who disgraced a book the never even read. You have tried to read it, so good for you. I find that great! Just don't assume I mean every Christain, because I don't!

I did try reading it. I've seen better literature in elementary school.

I am well aware that it is FICTION. However, it offers a message (Jesus was married and had a child) that not only does not coincide with traditional Biblical beliefs, but would shake the very foundations of most Christians' identites.

Thank you for calling me an idiot. Despite the fact that I have been accepted on a full scholarship to a prestigious college, have been a member of MENSA, have appeared on a televised talent search, won international piano competitions when I was eight years old, made "Who's Who Among American High School Students", am listed in the "National Dean's List", AND made it to the state geography bee.

But oh no, I'm a Christian who doesn't like the Da Vinci Code, so I must be a complete Bible-thumping, NASCAR loving, burn "Harry Potter" moron!!!!

Let me ask you a question. Lets say you followed this particular religion. And then I were to write a fictional novel that claims your entire religion is based on a lie. And that your god was a deceitful human being. And that your church knows the truth and they try to hide it from the followers.
Wouldn't you be offended by that book? And wouldn't you be afraid that some people might begin to suspect that certain aspects of the book may in fact be true?
Any sincere christian should be offended by The Davinci Code. The book may be fiction but it is still very offensive. You can't blame us for getting upset about it.
In fact you should be praising them for taking a stand. Too many people don't have the integrity to stand up for what they belive in. And they just let people run all over them and their beliefs.
Scientists would get upset as well if some christian were to write a book that claimed all science was based on lies and scientists knew it all along.
Any time anyone is attacked for their beliefs they will get upset. It is only natural.

While the book maybe fiction, some believe that the publishing of the book and movie is partialy the work of the devil, trying to confuse people and turn people away form the bible by presenting a different set of possibilites. The DiVinci code portrays Jesus as much less divine and more human and susceptable to sin, contrary to the whole point of the new testament as Jesus being a pure sacrifice for our sins. If Jesus wasn't divine, and had affairs with Mary Magdelene, then our sins cannot be forgiven through Jesus, and the whole promise of the New Testemant is null and void, also putting the existence of God in question.

The DiVinci code may be fiction, but there are many who would accept it as truth, and will be steered very clear of salvation.

I would also like to point out that the Bible is fiction as well... Although, like the question asker said about the Da Vinci Code, it's not a bad book. There are some excellent lessons in their on how to live your life. I agree that these "Jesus-Freaks" need to recognize that they can live by the Bible's teachings while accepting that it is not literal...

To answer the question though, of course they must attack it, they know that christianity's basis is shaky at best, so they must launch an all out attack against anyone who questions it, lest someone else's fiction replaces their own...

In response to Searos...
The Bible says that what I, and the majority of the world, believe in is based on a lie. Is it not also natural for those of us who are not christian to be offended by the bible and christianity then? Do you hold up and applaud the fact that I am taking a stand against what I see to be wrong?

Note: I am not trying to attack Christianity in particular, the hypocrisies I see in Christianity are found in most organized religions.

Personally, I agree with you. However, perhaps these "highly religious" people are upset because this book/movie was based on a 1982 nonfiction book called "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" which duped many people into believing in the same basic principles that are presented in "the Da Vinci Code." If that's the case, it's not surprising (although it IS a little foolish) to see these people responding so defensively.

The Da Vinci code is very convincing to people who are either not strong in a faith to begin with or easily impressionable. And people feel threatened. Even though it's fiction, the ideas contained within it are very dangerous to Christian principles. I'm Christian and enjoyed it immensley for it's fast pace, interesting characters, and historical content, but most people are as intellectually inclined as others.

The leaders of their congregations feel threatened and feel it's necessary to send the throng out to defend them. You are right, it is fiction and very good fiction at that. I read the book, listened to the book on audio tape, but not sure I am going to the movie.

I agree with you, but that's not going to stop people from getting angry. They have it in their heads that Dan Brown is mocking Christianity, and they won't let that go. I've given up being annoyed by it, and now I just find it funny to watch people get all worked up over a piece of fiction.

It's another example among many of how America is becoming a very conservative Christian nation.

i agree with you. i am catholic and love my religion but i also read the book and i loved it. and i dont get what the big deal is because it's fiction. but i guess sinse there're facts in the novel some people dont really know whats fact and whats fiction so they beleive the whole thing might be true. thats why 'highly religious' people went grazy about it.
