Geeze, you need to go to some birthing classes for information and support. Can you find some in your area? They will answer all these questions and more.

Breaking your water doesn't hurt. Many times it breaks on it's own and the mother doesn't feel it until it gushes out. Labor hurts. If you are having natural childbirth, it will hurt more. Having twins will hurt twice as much, but the consolation would be that they are probably smaller babies, so should deliver a little more easily. It is completely individual as to how you deal with pain, the position and presentation of the babies, and your anatomy. If you are having an epidural, you will experience much less pain, providing you have it early enough and it is effective, again depending on your individual case.

But please, try to find some classes! You need information to help you make these choices and then to come through the experiences most successfully. They will also have information on expectations of your hospital stay and the initial care and feeding choices of your babies. Don't waste any more time. My daughter just delivered her first baby at 35 weeks, 4 days. Don't wait until the last minute. It will make you feel much more prepared and comfortable with your anticipated deliveries.

Congratulations and good luck!

Have you gone through birthing classes? You really should find someone and take some. It will help to explain a lot to you so you will understand the whole process and what will be going on.

With having twins, you could actually deliver at any time. I'm surprised that you are not on bedrest now so that you would carry them a little further. I'm sure it's hard for you to be getting around. A mom with just one is usually getting tired by now!

As for the pain, everyone deals with pain differently. For anyone to tell you that vaginal delivery doesn't hurt, would be lying...but for some, it doesn't hurt too bad because they have a higher pain tollerance. I found I had the most pain once I got to about 9cm dialated and I had the pressure and urge to push and couldn't yet (not until you get to 10). That was hard! Once I could push, it feels better (like having to have a large bowel movement..those are the muscles you should use too).

Try to remember not to make any noises when you push and not to hold your air in your mouth, hold it in your lungs so that they push down on your stomach to help push the uterus and the babies out. Keep your legs wide apart and bring them up as close to your shoulders as you can to give the babies as much room as possible (it will go faster this way because they have the room to come out).

More than likely you will be offered an epidural. I did not get one, but I hear they really work. Sometimes the only problem with them are that you don't feel the urge to push so it makes it harder to be pushing. Some doctors will turn it off when you get to 9cm so that you can push.

Breaking the water does not hurt. Again, you feel pressure because you feel them put their fingers in and then the instrument (a thin, usually plastic, thing that looks similar to a crochet hook) in that will pull on the sac and break it (kind of like breaking a water balloon). You will feel the water coming out..soemtimes in a rush other times just trickling out and it can vary also from feeling like gallons to just a small amount if you've been leaking or if the babies head is blocking it. They can tell a lot by the color of the fluid that comes out too.

You also need to be ready for them to do a c-section. That is a very real possibility. Again, some people say that a c-section is worse and painful, but I wouldn't say it's worse. It's just pain in a differnt place...your stomach instead of the perineum. I recovered quite quickly from the c-section.

Good luck to you and your babies. I hope you will have a good delivery.

Blessings!

Wow, twins! You can go any day now! I had a vaginal birth with my baby and no drugs. She was 9lbs 10oz. A big baby. Does it hurt? Yes, it does. BUT.... What hurts are the contractions. When it is time to push, it actually feels good. You welcome the push, you want to push out. You will probably have an epidural which will get you through the worst part of labor. When it is time to push, you will be fine. My friend had twins vaginally. She said the worst part was that she was so exhausted from pushing out the first one, she had a hard time mustering up the strength to push out number two. When they break the water, it did not hurt at all. It was not even uncomfortable. After the water broke, water came trickling out and you cannot make it stop. I remember they put a pad under me and I still felt like I was wetting the bed. When this happens to you, relax and go with the flow (no pun intended!) Just use this time to relax because when the baby comes you will be dog tired!

I had a vaginal delivery and it was pretty painful - I don't really know how to describe the pain, it is like nothing else. It hurts and you get tired and there is pressure. But it is completely worth it and wonderful when you see your baby (in your case babies). I had my water broken by the doctor. Before that point, the contractions were not so bad. I could handle the pain and the contractions. Once the water was broken, that is when it intensified for me - there was no more cushion in there to absorb some of the contraction. The process of breaking my water didn't hurt at all - the doctor used a long crocheting type needle to break the water sac. Other then feeling the water coming out, I didn't feel that at all. Good luck!

I am a mother of 2 (not twins) and sister, I won't lie vaginal delivery does hurt. When I had my first child, I did not have an epidural, just demerol. It took the edge off, but that was it. I felt everything. I tore when the baby came out and I fully understood why nurses and baby books referred to it as the "ring of fire". With my second son, I had an epidural and I was sooo thankful. With an epidural, you feel NO pain and it makes the birthing experience so much better because you can focus on your baby instead of your pain. Even with an epidural, it is HARD work pushing and you will feel very tired once it's all over with. Most women I know who have had twins have had C-section, though (they give you epidurals for those). I wish you and your babies the best!!!!!

Okay not wanting to scare you but... the pain was beyond belief. I got an epidural which did not work. I was unprepared for the pain. Preparation I'm sure helps the situation. I would say on a scale 1-10 for pain I hit moments of 11! Braking the water doesn't hurt but is messy. Felt like a couple of gallons came out. Actually pushing the baby out is not so bad and if you can remember that you are almost done and nothing can last forever you will be fine. Side note I'm having another baby so even though I thought the pain was awful what they say is true.....you forget the pain when you see your baby. Good luck to you.

Yes a vaginal delivery hurts but to what degree is going to be different for every woman. When I was expecting my first baby and scared about delivery I just looked at everyone around me and realized that they too were born from some woman. You can do it! The doctor had to break my water and it did not hurt at all. Congratulations on having twins. You seriously won't remember your pain after the birth! You'll know what real pain is when they are teenagers! :) God Bless!

my labor was fine until they broke my water. after that is was a lot more intense. the actual breaking of the water doesn't hurt, but it does feel really gross. i can't describe the pain, but the best description would be like the worst cramps you've ever had right on top of each other. I had an epidural, so after I got it, nothing hurt at all. My husband and I took a nap for about an hour after I got it. no ones delivery is the same. this was my first child and I had always heard horror stories about women being in labor for 16-24 hours with their first child. My labor took 6 hours.

Breaking the water does NOT hurt. It's done with what looks a lot like a crochet hook - PAINLESS. I delivered my 8 pound 4 oz daughter vaginally with NO PAIN - I did NOT have an epidural or any pain medicine whatsoever! I used Belleruth Naparstek's Guided Imagery for a Healthy Pregnancy and Childbirth - basically I hypnotized myself! I had the BEST birth experience! People talk about a 'high' when they climb Everest -- that's nothing! Giving birth is the MOST AMAZING NATURAL HIGH you can ever imagine!!! Congratulations and best wishes!

Well I am pregnat at this moment 20 weeks and I have two other kids who I both had vaginal and my first child it hurt but not that much. If you are getting a epidural you want fill any thing but alot of pressure so if this is your first you might want to consider talking to your doctor about that. As far as when they break your water by me having the epidural I didn't fill it so I wouldn't know if that hurts are not. But rest assure that everything will be fine so don't worry.
