There is a rule called the "7-minute leeway system." That means seven minutes before and after each quarter-hour (:00, :15, :30, :and :45) counts as that quarter-hour for recordkeeping purposes. For example, you would record any time you arrive from 7:53 through 8:07 as 8:00 on your timesheet. 8:08 through 8:22 would count as 8:15, and so on.

I'm not sure this is a law, though--just a general practice--and if your employer asks you to be there at 8:00, you should be there at 8:00.

Absolutely not! If there were a law allowing this then nobody would show up to work on-time. If a company tells you that your start time is 9 AM, then you're expected to be there are ready to start by 9 AM.

There is no law, and you should actually arrive a few minutes prior to your start time because that is your START time. You should be in your place ready to begin working when you start time arrive, not coming through the door.

To be success you need to be respectful of the policies of your company. Your future with the organization depends upon your respect, and they can see a lack of respect.

Remember, you are not indispensible. There are 200 resumes ready to be sent to your company to take your job at any given moment.
