I love those old Sanford and Son episodes! Redd Foxx was a compelte riot!! We all know Fred's late wife was named Elizabeth ("This is the big one!!! You hear that Elizabeth??? I am coming to join you honey!!!!). I know the show had her deceased for about 20 years. Did they ever say what she died of?

P.S.-To those who have said she died in labor while having Lamont. That could not be right, because, in the episode where Donna, "The Barracudia" was introduced, she cooked dinner for Lamont, to try to get on his good side. When she asks him why he didn't like it, because Fred said it was his favorite, Lamont's repsonse was, "It was the way my mother used to make it!" He and Fred then got into a heated argument about how good a cook Elizabeth was, both recalling on their past experience of her cusine.

I like this show too. I just began watching it not even a year ago, but they play it so often on TV Land that I pretty much know each & every episode by heart.
They do have "the baracuda" episode in which Lamont makes the comment about his mother's cooking; but they also have several episodes where Fred & others state that Fred raised Lamont on his own.
No one can truly say what Elizabeth died of, because the show did not disclose this information (unless there's a lost episode or two collecting dust somewhere), but my point is that they have taped several shows where the things the actor's say contridict themselves.

It is my contention, that they never say on the show how Elizabeth died. Must not have been anything spectacular or it would have been mentioned. No plane crash----I'm guessing health reasons....perhaps Lamont at birth?

Durning eposides I always remember Fred telling Lemont about his mother and Aunt Ester always telling him about her and Aunt Ester helping Fred raise him so I always asumed that she died during childbirth.
