Just keep in mind, whatever you get them you will end up taking care of -- no matter what they say, no matter how much they cross their heart or beg. Kids naturally lose interest in any animal over time. So make sure whatever you get, it is something you want -- in fact, know in your mind that it is really your pet, not theirs.

Keeping that in mind, a ten gallon tank of fish is nice. The bigger tank you get, the easier it is to clean. Do your research on how to set up the tank right, and you will rarely have to clean the tank.

A pair of female mice are nice, and if they lose interest, they are a pet that does not require human interaction. Mice also rarely bite, a plus. But mice do need a friend, so getting only one is considered cruel. Males stink and cannot be kept in pairs.

A hamster is not dependent on human interaction either, if they lose interest. Hamsters are more likely to bite.

Both hamsters and mice are small enough that the allergies might not register. They are also short lived, so if your kids lose interest, you will only be caring for them a short while.

I definitely recommend parakeets. They are easy to take care of, once you bring them home they are very affectionate and loving toward you. There's none of that new home awkwardness. I've never known them to trigger any allergy symptoms, and you can train them to stand on your hand and talk. Parakeets make great pets for anyone of any age.

small cage animals like hamsters and gerbils are good for kids with allergies. instead of using wood shavings for the cages, you can get this shaved up cardboard stuff that has allergy reducers in it. im not too sure what its called but we used it in our mice cages for the longest time

Fish are the best pets. Betas are easy because they prefer a small bowl, and smaller bowls are easier to clean!

I have heard: a Siberian husky is a great dog for ppl who have allergies, as is a Siamese cat.
I am allergic to cats, yet I have one. I picked her up at the youngest age possible, so my system could become use to her.. she is med/long haired.. she is my love, as are my dogs..
Good luck in your search!
