The easiest way to save energy is by not using it.

It sounds daft but if you don't turn something on then you are not wasting any at all.

Do this by Getting up early in summer using the most of the cooler daylight hours.
Insulate ready for winter.

if you are in Florida 88 when on vacation of less than a week, over a week turn it off & your frige unllug it open the doors . the new friges 1996 or newer cannot take the heat. runs all the time with out air any way. going to work 8-9 hours 85 at home 78 but leave it on! if you have a self defrosting frezer in the garage it is wasting money, put it in ac. cuts runtime 60% if its 134a freon in it, it will die with in 2 years any way in the garage, insulate your house ,the attic heavy! use low e windows, insulated curtains. there are alot of ways to save energy at home. by the way if you use one of those programable stats have a time delay put on your compressor to your central, have them to set it at 3 minutes. some times a programable stat will turn on off back on again real quick, not good on the compressor also jerking the juice ,hard ,costing you money . been there done that.

I purchased a programable thermostat for my home and it is working wonderfully....you can program it to the temp you like and it will turn the system up or down while you are away....I have mine set so that it will turn down the A/C about 15 minutes after we leave the house and it turns the A/C back to the confort level that we like about an hour before we return home. So far we have saved some, but it is only because I am still fine tuning to get that perfect temp..I purchased my thermostat from Lowes. About $30
