My Fiance has a really good idea for a business. However it will take alot of capital, selling assets (mainly mine), quitting our jobs since it is a "mobile" type business. He is worried about our financial security come retirement. We both have pretty good jobs but just make it by month to month. He doesn't feel like he has accomplished anything in his life. Even though he was in the Marines, received his BA in Electronics with Top Honors, etc. I think he has done well. He went thru a divorce and a layoff about 6 years ago so he feels that he has nothing. We are in our 40's. I have a nice house, a little money in the bank, typical debt, etc. Lately, he has been hurtful towards me telling me I am a obstacle and a dream killer, etc. Just because I am not jumping feet first into his idea. I suggested this weekend that he go his own way. He says he doesn't want to be without me. And couldn't pull his idea off alone. I don't know what to do. Please help.

Find some investors so you won't have to go it alone.

Who has the most to lose if this business venture is a flop?

You already have gotten first warning on how he will act when things doesn't go his way basically he need what you got to get what he need.

Now if you take a chance and sell your assets for his business, I hope you can deal with the consequences.

He said he couldn't pull his idea off alone , does he need your assets to do so.

I don't want the risk of losing what I have accomplished on a lack of self esteem shown by my Fiance.

If your fiance has the type of resume that you mention in your question and he still feel he has nothing, I suggest you take other means to boost his self esteem.

Now You mentioned that mainly your asses ts will be sold and you seem to have planned your future on your home and no man would be worth losing it over.

His divorce and layoff makes him feels he has nothing and if you invest all your assets in this deal you could end up with nothing so learn from other peoples mistake.

It's not your duty to build this man up to something because his divorce and layoff left hims feeling like he has nothing.

Why are you a obstacle or a dream killer because he need what you have accomplished to further his business ideas, you look like you followed your dreams and he need to find another avenue to start his business.
