When I got mine four years ago the pain was terrible. Now, I may need to get it removed and I a horrified that I will have pain again, or that it will get stuck or there will be problems. This is keeping me from having it removed because I don't know what it will be like. Is there anything that the doctor can give you before hand to numb any possible pain?

Not that I know if, but have "heard" that if you have it removed during your period, it hurts less because the uterus is already passing fluid and therefore will pass the IUD more easily. You might ask your doctor about this.
You might try asking for a mild sedative beforehand, so you can relax. That, too, might make it easier.

I too have the merena iud, & i'm no longer having any issues that i'm attentive to. I purely had a complicated time getting over the perception of something being interior me. that is extra perfect than the former ones, because the string is plastic i trust, and could no longer inspire infections. also, DRs discourage absolutely everyone who's childless from employing this methodology. I hve heard horror memories of the IUD being implanted contained in the children mind and inflicting miscarriages. regardless of the indisputable fact that, i assume that the iud must be got rid of once pregnacy is detected. also, my classes are purely about non-existant.

If your IUD is causing you terrible pain you have to get it removed. It could be causing more problems than good. See your doctor, get an exam, and let him give you the best solution.
