I'm a stay at home mom, have two kids, husband, and all that. I am often referred to as a homemaker. I don't make homes...I'm raising a family! LOL!

We have a similar thing here in the UK .. if you're a stay at home mum you're a "housewife". Now, I'm not married to my HOUSE am I? It drives me mad! That's why I make a point of introducing myself by my first name , not as so and so's wife or mother and say " I'm raising my family at the moment but usually I'm ...." etc - to make sure people know I am a person and I do have a life!

Because you ARE a home maker. You are the creator of your home. The engine. Without you, the home wouldn't exist. And I'm not talking about building a house, which is very easy compared to making a home. To make a home work, you gotta be a very good mum.So the next time someone calls you homemaker, you should be proud of that!

Is this a question? The term is originally an American feminist phrase, but it has entered mainstream English.

Incidentally some survey recently found out that a homemaker's salary, if created based on the market price of service's rendered, would be about $131,000.

by doing those things your making your house a home. Trust me, my husband grew up in a house not a home even though his mom was a stay at home mom, she was not a homemaker.

Because in America women who raise their families for a living are underappreciated and underpaid. The name "homemaker" is nothing but an umbrella term used to cover all of the jobs that your perform. If society couldnt label you like that, you might actually get the respect you deserve! You would be called "counselor-accountant-taxi service-organizer-janitor-chef-tutor-doctor-and mother". Its just too much to fit into one job description! Keep doing your thing....you know your worth! :-)

I guess because you make the home..you make sure that everything in the home is right..you watch the children, feed the family, wash the clothes, clean the house, everything inside the home counts on you. You make the home what it is. You are the backbone of the home.

Thats what raising a family is - you "make the home" - you clean, cook, take care of the kids, etc
