AQctually cucumbers are a vine. if properly trained up a trellis you will expose mre of the plant to sunlight to improve your harvest. Make sure trellis can hold the weight, best for full sun exposure, in good composted soil.

yes. you can either let them wander on the ground if you have room(pine straw down to keep mud down) or you can put up a wire basket or trellis for them to grow up and hang. m
