"First they came for the communists..."

Thats a very interesting question, the Bolsheviks provided Hitler with a lot of ammo. Fascists hate Communists (Lefties, Do Gooders etc) more than anyone else. Hitler associated Jews with Bolshevism as a way of tarring them.

Hitler's big credibility happens when the British are having thier Empire coming unglued. Chamberlain, British PM doesn't think they have the political will to start a second continental war with Germany and besides India is coming unglued. Hitler bluffs he wants part of the land grab like the other European colonial powers and argues for possession and occupation of Austria. Chamberlain agreed to this. Russia is a thousand miles away, just totally absorbed in their own consolidation upon their change from a nobility to a socialist government. Hitler made a secret treaty with Stalin to carve up Poland.

No, Hitler didn't need Stalin to "come" to power. Hitler was eloquent on the radio. Germany was suffering an economic depression and was looking for anybody with an answer.

Hitler is only fascinating because, as far as I know, he is the only middle-age man to rise to fame in the history books. Everybody else starts out young or with family connecitons.

Hitler had already come to power. Stalin wouldn't have dealt with a wanna be. Hitler neutralized a major problem when he made the agreement with Stalin. He really screwed up though when he reneged.

I don't think that Stalin had anything to do with Hitler's rise to power either way. He was in opposition to the communists but wound up creating a government that was the same as a communist regime. Strong central government, no rights for the people. I like the way you think though keep up the good work.

Unfortunately yes. Stalin had nothing to do with Hitler's rise to power. Hitler came to power through the system while Stalin mafia-whacked his way up the proverbial ladder.

Both were monsters and either one would have started WWII. Hitler just beat Stalin to it.
