My best friend and I are from the same city in the north. We grew up in the same neighborhood and had the same basic life experiences. Our family history is similar. I was never really interested in the South, ect. and yet he got a wild hair in high school and started wearing cowboy boots and was into the whole country thing. Very strange. He is a pretty normal yankee nowadays.

I am from the north and I can count on one hand how many people I have seen flying confederate flags around here in my entire lifetime. It would kind of be foolish to flaunt around the flag of the losing side. "Woohoo! We lost! Rock on!" Makes one look quite stupid at best.

Most of them are racist. The rest live in very rural areas and huge farms where the only music available is country music. Somehow they connect the two? Personally, I think it's retarded, but it's their choice. Some people do it, too, because of The Dukes of Hazzard. I can kinda understand that, because it was a pretty awesome show!

It is much like Harley riders getting tattoos. Some people paint thier favorite sport team logo on your car window, or wear a sports jersey to work. They are simply expressing themselves.

They probably have some Southern heritage in their line. It's only racist if someone uses it for the wrong reasons.
