Well it was interesting. Kids still played outside. we could play with toy gun, on the 4th of july it was still legal to shoot off fireworks. There were at the most 28 channels on tv. About 8 on VHF and the rest on UHF. Most stations did their own programming and had local shows. Computers were giant bookshelf sized boxes that used punchcards or spool tape drives.
Country music was pretty big in areas where Disco was big.
People were worried about the Commies a bunch. Gas crunch just started and terrorism was still somewhat uncommon but becoming more widespread. Veitnam war was the big problem in the beginning. Taxes and gas problems were the concern in the middle. And Iran overthrowing its gov't and taking american hostages was the problem at the end.

Kids were quite a bit more respectful. There were jerks out there but teachers and principals could spank kids in the school if they acted up.

I was a teenager throughout the 70's and had an absolute blast. It was great whether you were a jock, nerd or partier in school because come the weekends, you always had somewhere cool to hang with your friends. Rock and roll music was everything and live concerts were always on the agenda. We lived in a suburb of LA and gang violence was only a problem for gang members. The War on Drugs didn't exist and everybody we knew was hip about using drugs and lived by the rule of moderation. Police didn't hassle you unless you were a real screw up and deserved the law. There's so many great memories that I can't get into them all right now. But I totally enjoyed the freedom and am glad I was there. Oh yeah, home PC's weren't around, so isolating yourself and communicating through cyberspace didn't exist so you needed good socializing skills. No cell phones either, but it didn't matter. It was still a great time.
