on cool days it blows out 62 degrees, on hot days 74 degrees, what could be wrong with my central air unit?? Does it need freon??

put a thermometer by the return air register and determine what the inlet temp to the evap coil is.the design temperature difference is 20 degrees;if the return air is 84 degrees,the discharge air from the coil should be 64 degrees.you may have an 16 to 18 degree spread depending on the condition of the duct work.if the temp difference is 14 degrees or less,you need to have a service tech look at your system.

My thermostat is sitting on 85.
But then again I live a little south of hell & it is hot here & only very rich people could keep their homes under 62 F.
Are you an icicle by any chance?

Pull the cover and clean the coils. Get a recharge if that doesn't help.

Probably so, but that is still pretty cool. Have is cleaned and serviced.
