It seems like the canidates from both parties for the past 20 years or more talk to the general public like were 4th graders. Spewing out broad generalities and broken promises. They've made politics so damned confusing that no one can figure out whats really going on. I think this country would run alot better on the "keep it simple stupid" principal. It shouldn't take an accounting degree just to do your taxes or a PHD in bulls#it to understand whats going on in the world.

Because the politicians found out they could lie their asses off and still get re-elected. And with the press no longer a watchdog out to protect the people from an unscrupulous government, it now being a political machine in its own right, the people in general no longer are kept informed of what is actually going on.

And then those lying politicians buy off the voters, with pork-barrel projects, welfare, tax-breaks, etc and tell lies about what they'll do in order to be elected. Honest people mostly look at politics and see it is a nasty and dirty business, where honesty and integrity seem to be tossed aside like the impediments they are to the politicians' self-serving lives.

Not all politicians are like this, but most seem to be to some extent.

The problem is that the voters think like fourth graders. Politics are not confusing at all if you take the time to find out the truth, which neither political party ever talks about. They talk about nonsense because the voters react to nonsense. Think about it. Realistically what danger is there in allowing gay people to marry? Why would anyone concern themselves with worrying about someone burning a flag? Is there an epidemic of flag burning out there? Why not talk about real issues like the fact that our grandchildren will still be paying off this huge defecit that the Republicans have created? The Democrats haven't even tried to stop them. But as long as we the voters let politicians run for office and reelection on bogus issues, then we get what we deserve.

Did you know that newspapers print only articles that an eight-grader can understand (if they paid any attention in school). Politicians have always been corrupt - my grandparents came here in the early 1900s, and said it was just disasterous - the lies, etc.

We might even be better off now, as the newspapers no longer cover things up for those in power (they used to).

I agree with your assesment of our current political situation.

But I don't long for a good old days, because I don't think honesty and integrity ever existed in politics, or ever will.
