Reggaeton is spanish reggae... thats the only difference.

First it started out as ska music in jamaica then became reggae still in jamaica then it went from reggae to dancehall, then they took it from a different type of reggae/dancehall in panama wich bacame reggaeton. So basically it comes from panamanian dancehall! I hate reggeaton! But i do like reggae and dancehall! But i still think there is a difference! and yes reggaeton is a cheap,bad copy of reggae!!! The questions below me are either wrong or opinions! but my answer was/were facts! hope i helped! (I agree with duff 007!!!)

As I understand, Reggae is a genus of Jamaican music inspired by Rastafarian philosophy including Roots, Rocksteady, Ska, and Dancehall Reggae.
Reggaeton is latin dance music originating in Puerto Rico. It's more contemporary, and influenced by hiphop.

no....just listen to it...reggaeton is a mix of reggae, salsa, merengue, bachata, boleros, and all other types of spanish music, it just uses the fundamental beat of reggae, but its not copying, its expanding reggae...
