Theodore Roosevelt on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN:
"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

P.S. For those of you lacking enough knowledge of our country's policies, the wet foot/dry foot policy allows cuban rafters who reach our soil (actually setting foot on dry land) to stay here under political assylum, and cuban rafters who are intercepted at sea are sent back to Cuba. ALL other illegal inmigrants from ANY other country or nation in the world caught trying to enter the US by land, air or sea without visas are automatically sent back to where they came from. This policy was widely exploited during the Mariel boat lift in the early 80's (Castro temporarily opened up the harbors & allowed any cuban to leave), resulting in thousands of cubans reaching Miami. This upset in demographics has turned Miami into a little Cuba, where all cubans there want everything said & done in spanish, all policies and laws to benefit them, and basically cornered local and state governments into catering to their whims for fear of "political incorrectness." Hope this eases the "wtf" issue.
