What do Muslims think of the American way of life?

Bonnie, you make a good point. But let me get this straight are you saying that it is mostly the Muslim man who disagrees with our way of life, because of the freedoms and equality women have here?

Good life, open society, women have equal rights to men. Plus no mullahs to rule your life---I am likes this, whi not? hope other muslims to hear this and practice this. I don't know how society not care of mothers and sisters and put them in the back.

Those who are here must like the American way of life because they have spent a lot of time and money to come here. I also think it's an eye opening experience to come from a very stricter environment to a place where at times there is not much of a moral code and people at times can be very rude and disrespectful towards one another.
I had a friend who is married to a Muslim man and he always talks so badly of American women, calls them whores and what not and treats her pretty badly and what gets me, if it was not for her, he would not be able to live in this country. He lives in her house and I know that not all Muslims are like this, but the guy justed creeped me out and I do not know why she bothered to stay with him. He just moved into ther home and took over, it's like she was no longer allowed to have a life.
Then I have worked for Muslim people who were the totally opposite and were just great wonderful kind people. So one bad apple should not spoil the whole bunch.

Though I am not Muslim, I have studied on their religion, so if I may, I'll give an answer... I think that Muslims think that the American way of life is blasphemous as we eat pork, and the women are so free, in their eyes the women here (America) are dishonorable before god, as we show our nakedness, we speak our mind, literally will cuss a male out...in public, all these reasons and then some are reasons why Muslims feel this way. To them, the men here (America) aren't men at all, because of all the freedom they "give" women. If women were to have 5 husbands, they would be considered a whore, but if a man has 5 wives, they are royalty...see my point! Of course this is coming from a women's point of view (mines), but I am eager to see how males are going to answer your question.

I have worked with Afghani tribesman,soldiers since 1979. Most of the soldiers only see America as programming being sent overseas by networks and cable tv. They believe that American women only care about money and will use their womanly charms to get what they want from men. The Arabs believe that the number one export of America is weapons which is true, The Arabs believe that pornography is the number two export. They really do not have a concept of acting,pretending when it comes to the relationships one is in. They believe that the Islamic faith is being attacked by Christianity almost as badly as during the Crusades. That is why Iran wants a nuclear weapon fast to counter what it sees as a threat from the US, same as North Korea which believes now that we invaded Iraq and took over the country that they are in real danger

I am not a Muslim but I have a friend at work who is. She went through a lot of time money and trouble to become an American citizen. I think that speaks volumes.

I think more traditional (not necessarily radical) Muslims are appalled at our society's casual attitude towards flaunting sexuality, drug use, profanity, and various forms of dishonest behavior. Just as it's easy for us to think all Muslims are wild-eyed bomb throwers, it's easy for them to get the impression that all Americans are debauched degenerates. Neither generalization is correct, of course, but it's understandable that someone might think that. I wouldn't want my kids (if I had any) to be exposed to naked bike riders on city streets; I can only imagine what a conservative Muslim would think.

That can apply to anyone though not only Muslims. The life style in US today is something which is generally criticised yet individuals wanna try all that "fun" stuff.
